Road crew worker fatally hit by excavator bucket in Livingston County
A 23-year-old crew worker died after being struck by an excavator on Monday, June 30, while working at a job site in Livingston County.
The victim, from St. Clair Shores, was hit by the excavator bucket while working in an excavated hole in the area of Grand River near I-96 in Brighton Township, according to Michigan State Police. Troopers from the Brighton post responded to the scene around 3:15 p.m.
"It appears the worker operating the excavator was not aware the victim was in the hole," MSP First District said in a news release.
When state troopers arrived, Brighton police were already providing medical aid, according to MSP. The victim, who had critical injuries, was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he died.
Brighton police, Brighton Fire Department and Livingston County EMS assisted at the scene.
The incident appears to be a workplace accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
